Handa City is located in the center of the Chita Peninsula in the south of Nagoya and is a core city with a population of about 120,000.
Handa City is well balanced in commerce, industry and agriculture has 4 great sightseeing resources of " (Dashi, Kura, Nankichi and Akarenga)," among which Dashi (float) that has been inherited from the Edo Era is very famous,
and " (Handa Dashi Festival)" held once every 5 years gathering 31 Dashis in the city is said to be the No.1 Dashi festival in Japan. (Next on October,2012.)
Brewing vinegar and Japanese sake has been also popular since the Edo Era and you can see "Kura" or warehouses with black wooden walls in 500m long lines along the street even now.
Fragrance of vinegar hangs in the air on the street where you can enjoy scenery not with your eyes but also your nose, and the street is selected as one of "the 100 fragrant sceneries" by the Ministry of the Environment.
Handa City stimulates all the senses with a commemorative museum of Nankichi Niimi, known as a famous fairy tale author of "Gongitsune" and many agriculture and stock raising products including Chita beef that has been establishing a position as famous brand in beef.
