Tokoname
City in Aichi Prefecture is located in the center of the west coast
of the Chita Peninsula overlooking the Ise Bay to the west, and hills
on its east side. Tokoname has a mild climate and is rich in nature.
It is a city where people may enjoy the various aspects of the four
seasons. The city is also known for its ceramics since old times, of
which the history is about 1,000 years. Tokoname is counted as one of
the 6 old ceramics producing sites in Japan including Seto, Shigaraki,
Echizen, Tanba and Bizen among which Tokoname is said to be the oldest
and the largest. The Ceramics industry is still the major industry of
Tokoname even at present, and the tradition and culture of "Tokoname
ware" is still alive.Construction of Central Japan International
Airport ("Centrair") is now underway offshore of Tokoname,
of which operation is targeted to start in February 2005.In line with construction
of Centrair, the development of the area to support and complement the
airport is simultaneously promoted in the airport island and the coast
of Tokoname. As the international airport will offer the function of
traffic links for the exchange of people, goods and information throughout
the world, Tokoname City will play an important role as an entrance
hall to Japan. |
